We love getting to know our Argus Team Members and why they love their jobs. Today we chatted with Jackie Jackson, Director of Security at Coors Field. Jackie is a real people person and loves working for Argus, read on to learn more!
Q: Hi Jackie, tell us a bit about yourself:
A: I worked for a Department of Corrections in my home state of Wisconsin for 33 years until I retired in June of 2011. After about a year off, I decided I needed to find something to do, so I moved to Colorado with my brother. I started working for Argus part-time in August of 2012. At first it was just something fun to do in my retirement, but I soon found that I really enjoyed the work.
Q: What is your position?
A: I am now the Event Director at Coors Field. So I’m in charge of managing and training all the entry point screening staff at each gate and helping people through the entrance and metal detector. We have a team of about 50-60 people at each game with usually 10 people per gate at all five gates.
Q: Have you always worked as Event Director at Coors Field?
A: No, I was just promoted this past January. Prior I worked on the security teams at Pepsi Center, Sports Authority Field and a few other venues. I love basketball, baseball, hockey, football…I’m just a true sports fan!
Q: What is the coolest event (sporting/music/etc.) that you have ever worked with Argus?
A: One of the most memorable sporting events was the playoff game that sent the Broncos to the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning. But I also love the concerts and events where families come with kids – I love to be around people who are happy and enjoying themselves.
Q: You’ve probably met some memorable fans along the way, any special stories you’d like to share?
A: Recently there was a girl and her mom who were trying to go to a Disney on Ice event at the Pepsi Center. The mom was in a wheelchair and they were from out of town, so by the time they got to the venue, the show was already underway. I was able to get them tickets to another show later in the afternoon so that they could see the whole thing. They were so grateful, they brought me two dozen roses, a nice card, and gave me the biggest hug as a thank you. I love to make people happy and this was a really special moment.
Q: Have you seen some crazy fans at any sporting events over the years?
A: There are always folks with crazy hair, makeup, tattoos, but they are all for the most part having a great time which I love. People really support their teams in Colorado – they get excited about the events and really dress up, do face painting, and wear funny outfits. The fans make our work so fun.
Of course being from Wisconsin, it is always fun to meet other Wisconsin fans at Packers Games, My team members always send them over to me to say “hi” and to take photo!
Q: What do you love most about working for Argus?
A: Well this was supposed to be my retirement job, I never pictured myself as a supervisor. But when they offered me the position, I asked “what do I have to do?” The answer was “Jackie, you do you.” That’s what I love about this job. I can just be myself. I love people and making people smile, I’m really just a big kid at heart. Working for Argus never feels like work.
Q: What are you most proud of in your work as an Argus Team Member?
A: That I have a good following of staff who will go out of way to help other team members. I’m a people person and treat others as they would want to be treated. I think my team appreciates that approach and as a result, we have a really great group of people on the security team who work very well together.
Thank you so much for sharing a bit about yourself, Jackie! We will be sure to look out for you at the Colorado Rockies games this summer!
