The Denver Coliseum opened in 1952 and was one of Denver’s largest indoor venues, boasting a capacity of 10,000+. The Denver Coliseum is currently home to the National Western Stock Show.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, also known as DSG Park, is home to the Colorado Rapids men’s professional soccer team. The McNichols Civic Center Building is located at the northwest corner of Civic Center Park. In 1909, the cornerstone of the building was laid, setting the foundation for the then Carnegie Library that would become a center of learning in the park. Sports teams at the school are called Buffaloes. The athletic teams participate in the NCAA’s Division I as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. CU’s varsity teams have won national championships in skiing, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, and football. Conference championships have also been won in several sports. Several club sports, such as cycling, swimming & diving, and triathlon, have won national championships in addition to the varsity teams. In football, CU enjoys an in-state rivalry with the Colorado State Rams in the “Rocky Mountain Showdown", a game that is played at the neutral site Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Denver University athletic teams are known as the Pioneers. Denver University hosts a variety of intercollegiate sports and is a major power in winter sports, in particular, skiing and ice hockey. Ice hockey is DU’s flagship spectator sport, with eight NCAA titles (tied for second among all schools), most recently in 2017 and including back-to-back crowns in 2004 and 2005. The program has produced 75 NHL players and regularly sells out the 6,000 seat Magness Arena on campus, the showpiece of the Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness.
